Evaluates student learning styles, skills, deficiencies and goals; assists students in the development of Academic Action Plans; identifies appropriate learning resources for them to use; and facilitates their use of those resources. Monitors academic progress, communicating with each student at least every two weeks; s/he intervenes as necessary to assist those students having difficulty, and completes required University reports on their academic status. Be well versed in Microsoft Outlook Suite Products, specifically Outlook Calendar and many other technologies used throughout the university.

Course Mentors function in a professorial role as subject matter experts who assist students as they engage specific sections of the WGU curriculum. The type, length, and intensity of instructional method vary based upon student needs. Course Mentors contribute subject matter expertise to a larger course design effort that includes national directors, instructional designers, program development managers, COS editors, product vendors, assessment/project designers, and others.
